Hawkes Bay Central

Fire permits are required for all fires on Public Conservation Land other than for an approved campground fire or a fire lit for cooking or warmth. Apply for a Fire Permit (external link)

A Total Fire Ban is in force on all Central Hawkes Bay beaches.  Apply for a Fire Permit (external link)

Authorised fire types that do not require a fire permit in a Restricted or Prohibited Fire Season are: 

  • an enclosed outdoor fire place, pizza oven or chiminea with a building permit
  • a solid fuel barbeque with enclosed ash pan
  • any gas fired cooking appliance

Fire types that need a fire permit in a Restricted Fire Season are: 

  • Cultural cooking fire such as a hangi or umu
  • incinerator drum
  • Brazier
  • Fire pit
